Australian 100 Marathon Club Member
Miskin joined the Royal Australian Air Force in 1942, aged 17 (he said he was 18). He served as a rear gunner in Lancaster bombers during World War II before discharging in 1946.
His running career started around his 50th birthday after being challenged to run 50 laps of the local oval. In 1988 he became the oldest Australian Centurion when he walked 100 miles within 24 hours at age 63 years.
In April 2001, at age 75, Miskin attempted to break the Australian 75+ ultramarathon running records - as a walker. His final distance of 142.791km was almost 10km further than the old record. Along the way he broke the records for 12 hours, 50 miles & 100km as well.
From 2002 he set about rewriting ultramarathon record books in the 75+ age group. Turning 80 in July 2005 he focussed on the 80+ records - world & Australian. By the end of 2005 he had broken the world 80+ 6-day record & Australian 80+ records for 50km, 50 miles, 100km, 12 hours, 24 hours, 100 miles, 48 hours, 200km & 6 days.
In his final competitive year in 2006 Miskin continued to raise the bar. He broke M80+ world records for 12 hours, 100km, 24 hours & set new Australian M80+ records for 12 hours, 50 miles, 100km & 24 hours.
